School Safety and Accountability: A Mother’s Plea for Change

Huntsville, TX – A shocking incident at Mance Park Middle School has left a 12-year-old girl hospitalized after she was violently attacked by a male classmate. The assault, which occurred last Friday morning at Huntsville ISD, was caught on video and shared with our CLICK 2 HOUSTON help desk.

The Attack and Its Aftermath

In an emotional interview, Hailey Evans, the girl’s mother, described the terrifying moment she got the call from her daughter. "She was crying and frantically screaming," Hailey said. Her daughter told her she had been assaulted in a brutal attack.

Hailey revealed that the school’s initial response was dismissive. "They were telling us that there was basically no incident. [My daughter] had not been assaulted. Nobody was listening to her." Despite multiple attempts to get answers, she felt ignored. "They said [my daughter] was perfectly fine," she added, frustrated by the lack of concern from school officials.

The School’s Response

Everything changed when Hailey received a video and pictures of her daughter’s injuries. As she rushed to the school, the nurse called her. "The nurse [told] me that she’s scared that [my daughter] has a concussion and needs to go to the emergency room immediately." This call left Hailey stunned, realizing how little urgency the school had shown in protecting her daughter.

The Road to Recovery

Hailey confirmed that her daughter suffered a severe concussion and underwent further testing at the ER, where doctors documented it as a head injury from assault. "She has bruises all around her hips and stomach area. The back of her head is swollen."

Doctors have ordered her daughter to rest. "They want her just resting for the next few days. They want to watch because of the swelling on the back of her head. As of right now, there’s not a brain bleed… but anything could pop up at any time because it is a head injury."

A Concerned Mother’s Plea

Hailey was also disturbed by the inaction of a teacher who was present during the attack. "The teacher was standing in the video… and he stood there and watched the assault take place. There was no attempt to stop it."

When Hailey asked about disciplinary actions against the attacker, the school refused to provide details. "They told me that they cannot discuss other children… what’s going to happen with them." This lack of communication left her feeling helpless.

A Call to Action

Hailey urges other parents to stay involved. "Be more involved. Stay on top of what’s going on with the kids. These kids are being exposed to more and more violence every single day." She is now pushing for real changes to ensure a safer environment for all students.
