Rearrested on Online Solicitation of a Minor Charge

A judge on Monday set a $25,000 bond for Andrew Taake, a Houston man pardoned for his involvement in the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, who was rearrested earlier this month on an online solicitation of a minor charge.

Judge Leslie Brock Yates on Monday rejected prosecutors’ request for Taake to be held on a $1 million bond, KHOU reported.

Previous Charges and Sentence

Taake is accused in court documents of pursuing a sexual relationship with an individual who he believed to be under the age of 17 using an online messaging service. The 2016 case against Taake was still pending in Harris County when he was arrested by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents in 2021 for his involvement in the U.S. Capitol riot.

Pardoned by President Trump

Taake was originally sentenced to six years in prison last year after he pleaded guilty to assaulting police officers with bear spray and a whip-like weapon during the riot. Taake was one of more than 1,500 people pardoned by President Donald Trump for his involvement in the incident.

He was released on January 20 in compliance with Trump’s directive, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons. He was one of at least 12 people from the Houston area who were either charged or convicted of crimes related to the riot.

Recent Developments

The district attorney’s office in January said it had asked federal authorities to hold Taake in Colorado because of a pending warrant in Texas, but Taake was released. A judge revoked Taake’s bond on the solicitation charge in 2021 after he missed a court date, but his attorney Monday said he missed the date because he was in federal custody, KHOU reported.

Current Status

Court documents Tuesday showed that Taake made his $25,000 bond. He will appear in court again on April 2.
