Former prosecutor Nicholas Ganjei was sworn in this week as the interim U.S. Attorney of the Southern District of Texas, overseeing more than 43 counties and 9 million people.

Before his appointment, Ganjei most recently was chief counsel to U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on the Constitution. As chief counsel, he oversaw legal matters related to criminal justice, border security, intellectual property, and religious liberty, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Ganjei first joined the Department of Justice in 2008 and formerly served as U.S. Attorney and First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas.
