More than 130 restaurants across the Houston area will be offering special discounts during the last two weeks in February as part of the "Eat Drink HTX" event. From Saturday through February 28, diners can enjoy a two-course brunch or lunch for $15 or a $25 dinner at participating restaurants. Each meal purchased will help provide three to nine meals for local food banks.
A Win-Win for Diners and Nonprofits
Katie Stone, president of the Cleverley Stone Foundation, describes the event as a win-win for both diners and nonprofits. "Not only are they feeding the people who walk into the restaurant, but they are also feeding food-insecure Houstonians," Stone said. "Houston Food Bank converts every dollar donated into three meals."
A Legacy of Giving
Stone’s mother, Cleverley Stone, launched Houston Restaurant Weeks more than 20 years ago. Inspired by its success, Eat Drink HTX was created to support restaurants during slower periods. "Houston Restaurant Weeks and Eat Drink HTX exist to help restaurants generate revenue during slower periods, and they also exist to feed our community," Katie Stone said. "That is my mother’s legacy."
Increased Revenue and Community Impact
Katie Stone notes that the two weeks following Valentine’s Day and leading up to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo often see a decline in diners. However, Eat Drink HTX aims to change this trend by encouraging people to dine out and support local businesses. "We’re giving away gift cards so that diners can enjoy local restaurants," she said.
