A woman turned herself into police Wednesday following a fatal wrong-way crash in South Dallas earlier this month, police said.<\/p>\n
Police were called at about 7:40 p.m. May 11 to a crash in the 5000 block of Second Avenue, where officers determined a street race led to one uninvolved motorist dying in the crash, according to a news release.<\/p>\n
Sharonda Clark, 47, was booked into Dallas County jail and faces charges in connection to the crash, including one count of collision involving death and one count of racing on a highway causing death, according to jail records.<\/p>\n
Clark\u2019s attorney, Elaine Evans, said in a statement Saturday that the allegations against Clark were \u201ctrumped up\u201d and denied her client had been racing before the crash.<\/p>\n
Clark \u201c…didn\u2019t speed off or away from the scene, and [she] knew paramedics were en route, and she stayed and waited on them,\u201d Evans said in the statement to The Dallas Morning News.<\/p>\n
At the time of the crash, Clark and her daughter were leaving a cemetery \u2014 where they had just visited the grave of Clark\u2019s son, Evans said.<\/p>\n
Evans said she expects the charges to change or be dropped once prosecutors review the evidence and her client\u2019s statement to police.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf not,\u201d Evans continued, \u201cwe are prepared for the citizens of Dallas County to review it and weigh in, as Sharonda Clark is guilty of speeding, no doubt, but little else.\u201d<\/p>\n
It was not immediately clear how the investigation led to Clark\u2019s arrest. The news release did not detail her alleged involvement, only that she had turned herself in and is facing charges.<\/p>\n
One person who was not part of the race was killed, according to police, and at least three others were hospitalized.<\/p>\n
The person who died was identified as Jose Ambrocio Medina Soto, 59, according to Dallas County medical examiner\u2019s office records.<\/p>\n
Police have announced one other arrest in connection with the crash.<\/p>\n
Kadishjah Jackson, 31, was booked into the Dallas County jail on May 12 in connection to the crash. It was not immediately clear whether Jackson had an attorney.<\/p>\n
Jackson was speeding while racing another vehicle, an officer wrote in an arrest-warrant affidavit. Her car then crossed into the oncoming lane and crashed head-on into Soto\u2019s vehicle, causing it to flip over, the affidavit says.<\/p>\n
Jackson is facing charges in connection to the crash, including one count of manslaughter and two counts of racing on highway causing serious bodily injury, according to jail records.<\/p>\n
