Meet the Team Behind the DMN Education Lab<\/h1>\n

The DMN Education Lab is a community-funded journalism initiative that deepens the coverage and conversation about urgent education issues critical to the future of North Texas. The team is composed of experienced journalists who are passionate about education and dedicated to providing in-depth coverage of education issues and stories that affect North Texans.<\/p>\n

Our Team Members<\/h2>\n

Our team members come from diverse backgrounds and have a wealth of experience in journalism. They are committed to providing high-quality reporting and storytelling that informs and engages the community.<\/p>\n

Carol Taylor, Editor<\/h3>\n

Carol Taylor has been a journalist for more than 25 years, working as a copy editor, assistant news editor and, most recently, breaking news editor. She has played a role in managing coverage of national and international events as well as Dallas-Fort Worth area news. As breaking news editor, she led coverage of the death of Officer Darron Burks, the Frisco stabbing, and the shooting at Wilmer-Hutchins High School. She is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and UT Southwestern.<\/p>\n

Silas is the K-12 education reporter for The Dallas Morning News. Before joining the Ed Lab, he covered Tarrant County schools for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, where he wrote about academic challenges that led to the state takeover of Fort Worth ISD and unsafe restraint practices that led to a student\u2019s death. Previously, he worked as news editor at the Dallas Observer, and as a reporter and editor at the Oklahoman. Silas is a Missouri native and a graduate of the University of Missouri. Milla Surjadi, Higher Education Reporter<\/h3>\n

Milla covers higher education for The News. She\u2019s written about the national surge in college closures, the impact of state policy on university communities and the changing attitudes toward higher education in North Texas. Originally from New York, she has previously reported on education issues for The Wall Street Journal and the Los Angeles Times. She is a graduate of Duke University, where she studied English and journalism, and served as editor-in-chief of the school\u2019s independent student newspaper. You can read her work here.<\/p>\n
