Firefighters rescued two people and one dog from an apartment building during a fire in west Oak Cliff on Wednesday morning, Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesperson Jason Evans said.<\/p>\n
Officials responded to reports of a fire at 2468 Bahama Drive at about 11:52 a.m. They arrived to see black smoke coming from a first-floor apartment, Evans said. <\/p>\n
Firefighters received reports that people were still inside the building and quickly deployed attack teams and search and rescue. <\/p>\n
Upon entering the complex, firefighters found and extinguished a fire that originated near a closet, Evans said. The person who had been in that unit when the fire began was able to escape before DFR arrived.<\/p>\n
Officials also found a woman sleeping inside her apartment, who they awakened as her apartment filled with smoke and assisted out.<\/p>\n
Another resident was rescued from the balcony of an apartment that was also filling with smoke.<\/p>\n
A third resident, who left the building before DFR arrived, was transported to a hospital after inhaling a lot of smoke.<\/p>\n
The complex had a total of eight units. Only one unit was damaged by the fire, but the others suffered significant smoke damage, Evans said. <\/p>\n
Apartment management has enough units to accommodate the residents who will be displaced, according to officials.<\/p>\n
It remains unclear what started the fire.<\/p>\n
