A Dallas doctor, Dr. May Lau, who was sued by the Texas attorney general for allegedly providing gender-affirming care to minors, has surrendered her Texas medical license. This decision was announced by Attorney General Ken Paxton on Friday. Paxton had sued Dr. May Lau in October 2024, alleging that she had violated Texas\u2019 ban on gender-affirming care for minors. The lawsuit claimed that Lau had provided gender transition treatments, such as puberty blockers and hormone therapy, to 21 minor patients.<\/p>\n
Paxton further alleged that Lau had falsified the medical records for those patients to misrepresent the purpose of the prescriptions. The attorney general\u2019s lawsuit also described Lau as a \u201cscofflaw.\u201d One of Lau\u2019s attorneys, Craig Smyser at Steptoe LLP\u2019s Houston office, sent an email statement on her behalf, saying the doctor \u201cdecided to move her medical practice to Oregon and saw no reason to continue to maintain her Texas license.\u201d Lau, according to the statement, \u201ccontinues to deny the Texas Attorney General\u2019s politically- and ideologically-driven allegations.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Texas Medical Board\u2019s database lists Lau\u2019s medical license as \u201ccancelled by request\u201d as of early October. Lau is affiliated with both UT Southwestern and Children\u2019s Health in Dallas.
