Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy, a former Texas standout, was arrested Friday night in Williamson County.<\/p>\n
According to a jail record from the Williamson County Sheriff\u2019s Office, Worthy was booked for assault against a family or household member by impeding their breathing or circulation. Per Texas state law, that charge is a third-degree felony.<\/p>\n
On Saturday evening, Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick told the Austin American-Statesman that after speaking to several witnesses his office would not be accepting the case at this time. The county record says the case was \u201cDismissed\/Declined\u201d and that Worthy was released Saturday.<\/p>\n
Worthy, 21, recently finished his rookie campaign with the Chiefs. Kansas City selected the former Longhorns receiver with the 28th overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. He caught 59 passes for 638 yards and six touchdowns last season.<\/p>\n
The receiver was key in Kansas City\u2019s latest run to Super Bowl LIX, catching eight passes for 157 yards and two scores against Philadelphia in February.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are aware and gathering information,\u201d the Chiefs said in a statement given to NFL Network\u2019s Tom Pelissero.<\/p>\n
In a statement given to the Austin American-Statesman, Worthy\u2019s attorneys, Sam Bassett and Chip Lewis, said they are cooperating with Williamson County law enforcement\u2019s investigation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are aware of the allegation that led to Mr. Worthy\u2019s arrest,\u201d the statement read. \u201cWe are working with law enforcement in Williamson County to ensure they have the benefit of the totality of circumstances that led to this allegation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe complainant was recently asked to vacate Mr. Worthy\u2019s residence upon discovery of her infidelity. She has refused to do so and made a number of extortive efforts prior to resorting to this baseless allegation against Mr. Worthy.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will continue to cooperate with the Williamson County authorities as we have full faith that their thorough investigation will support Mr. Worthy\u2019s innocence.\u201d<\/p>\n
Worthy is the latest Chiefs receiver to face legal issues. Last offseason, Rashee Rice was involved in a major, multivehicle collision on Easter weekend in Dallas. Rice and Theodore Knox are both facing eight charges for their role in the hit-and-run crash.<\/p>\n
Rice turned himself into authorities and was booked into a DeSoto jail in April 2024.<\/p>\n
The NFL hasn\u2019t taken any action against Rice as of yet.<\/p>\n
