Garland police said on Friday that an independent investigation is being conducted after a man suffered a medical emergency in custody and later died.
Police said officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Marketplace Drive at around 3 p.m. Thursday, following multiple reports about a nude man in the area.
Police said they found the nude man outside a restaurant and attempted to speak with him, but he was uncooperative. He also started to fight and speak incoherently, as officers attempted to detain him, according to a police news release.
Police said they were able to bring the man into custody, but he suffered a medical emergency shortly after and was transported to a local hospital.

The next day, hospital staff notified police just after 1 p.m. that the man was pronounced dead. His identity is not being released this time, police said Friday.
The Dallas County district attorney’s office is now conducting an independent investigation into the circumstances leading up to his death, Garland police told The Dallas Morning News.
