The History of Bo Bo China
The business on Church Road in northeast Dallas, near the LBJ frontage road, has been selling Chinese food since 1977. It was a neighborhood staple in Lake Highlands, according to Dallas Morning News archives. The Lee family, who opened Bo Bo China in 1977, still owns the building on Church Road in Lake Highlands. They sold the restaurant to the Kim family in 2017.
Renovations Needed
Real estate agent Judy Gee told The Dallas Morning News that the building needs some renovations. "There’s another way to say that: ‘It’s old,’" Gee said. "The building needs some renovations."
Potential Reopening
The lockout means both families are hitting pause, but Gee said it’s possible for the restaurant to reopen if the building is sold. "It’s a good time to take a break and rethink the building," Gee said. That’s still true in 2025, she said.
Reviews and Ratings
Over the years, Bo Bo China was known for its great prices and devoted customers, former News critic Dotty Griffith wrote in one of several restaurant reviews in the 1990s and 2000s. She loved the "agreeably spicy" Mongolian beef but found the garlic chicken bland.

The restaurant has had several other locations, including Bo Bo Chinas in Grapevine and in Duncanville.
