Heavy rains unleashed a “catastrophic” and deadly flood along Texas’ Guadalupe River on Friday.
People have died in Kerr County and flooding has washed out roads in the city of Kerrville, about 100 miles west of Austin, authorities said.
“This is a catastrophic flooding event in Kerr County,” the Kerr County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook.
The department confirmed fatalities but did not say how many people have died. “The entire county is an extremely active scene,” the department said.

Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly confirmed told Hearst Newspapers at least six deaths have been confirmed.
“We can confirm but we are afraid there may be more,” he said. “They are still looking.”
Search and recovery efforts will ramp up as the waters recede, the city of Kerrville said.
Residents were urged to shelter in place and not attempt to travel. Anyone along creeks, streams and the Guadalupe River should seek higher ground, the sheriff’s office said.
The area was under a flash flood warning, with some spots receiving up to 10 inches of rain by 9 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. Another 2 to 4 inches could fall before the rain threat slows this afternoon.
“This is a very dangerous and life-threatening flood event along the Guadalupe River! Move to higher ground!” the weather service said.
