Missing Person Case Turns into Murder Investigation

Introduction to the Case

A 66-year-old man was arrested this week after he confessed to Fort Worth police that he killed his missing roommate, according to an arrest-warrant affidavit.

Rana Nofal Soluri, 47, was reported missing earlier this month by her co-worker after she had not been heard from since March, the affidavit said. Soluri had taken a leave of absence from work and was supposed to return at the end of March but never did, the affidavit said.

Initial Investigation

Police earlier this month went to Soluri’s residence and met with her roommates, who told police they had been unable to contact her and that her car, which she purchased shortly before her disappearance, had been left abandoned in front of the residence.

Police later obtained a search warrant for Soluri’s cell phone records and found two data connections to cell towers just before midnight on March 21.

Crime Scene Investigation

On Monday, police returned to Soluri’s residence, where her roommates consented to a search of the home. Police found surveillance video footage that showed one of her roommates, Dennis William Day, 66, dragging what appeared to be a lifeless body into the backyard around 10 p.m. on March 21, the affidavit said.

Confession and Arrest

Day was interviewed by police and initially denied involvement in the disappearance, but later he admitted to strangling Soluri to death after an argument. He said he disconnected the video camera after he realized it was recording him, and transported her body to Bowie, about an hour northwest of Fort Worth, where he dumped her body over a bridge and disposed of her cell phone.

The cell tower data also matched where Day told police he dumped her phone, the affidavit said.

Current Status of the Case

Soluri’s body was not found, which the affidavit said may be a result of flooding in the creeks in the area.

Day was booked into the Tarrant County jail on Thursday. He faces a murder charge and is being held on $200,000 bail.
