A Lancaster man was shot and killed early Monday during a shootout in a Mesquite parking lot, according to a news release from Mesquite police.
Kemarius Mack, 23, was said to have been fighting with multiple people in a parking lot, in the 2800 block of Franklin Drive before an exchange of gunfire occurred shortly before 1 a.m., the police news release said.
Immediately after the shooting , the suspected shooter contacted Mesquite police, saying they acted in self-defense, investigators said.
Police did not immediately identify the shooter or say if the person would face criminal charges in connection with the shooting .

According to the written statement, the department said its officers who responded to the scene provided medical aid to Mack after he had been wounded, an effort to address concerns from those at the scene regarding the actions taken by Mesquite police officers.
