Texas Rangers’ Front Office Faces Decisions as Trade Deadline Approaches
While the Texas Rangers’ offense continues to search for answers as the 2025 season rolls along, the team’s front office might have decisions to make around what personnel will be involved in that search.
President of Baseball Operations Chris Young Weighs In
The Rangers’ president of baseball operations, Chris Young, joined Sportsradio 96.7 FM/1310 The Ticket (KTCK-AM) on Tuesday, where he discussed the team’s play through the first 75 games of the season.
When asked about whether the team will be buyers or sellers at the July 31 MLB trade deadline, Young didn’t hesitate.
Buyers or Sellers: What’s Next for the Rangers?
“The idea of playing a second half of season that’s not meaningful … it kills me to even think that way. With that being said, we do have decisions to make for the best interest and long-term health of the franchise. I expect to win, I expect to be buyers. We’ve gotten back to .500, but being .500 is not good enough,” Young said.
Young added what specifically he will have to see in addition to the Rangers’ record improving for them to be active at the deadline.
Conditions for Being Active at the Deadline
“We’ve gotta be above .500, showing signs of progress, we need to be playing better baseball on the road and we need to see real improvement offensively because we may see some regression with our pitching. That’s only natural, but we do need to see our offense carry us for a period of time. I wanna see these guys come together as a complete team. If that happens, it’s very easy to believe this team is capable of winning a championship,” Young said.
Past Success at the Trade Deadline
Prior to the 2023 trade deadline, the Rangers acquired Max Scherzer from the New York Mets and Jordan Montgomery from the St. Louis Cardinals, who would both help the team en route to their first World Series title later that fall.
