Jerry Jones and Micah Parsons Meet on Field at Cowboys Minicamp

Must read

Cowboys Mandatory Minicamp

FRISCO — Owner and general manager Jerry Jones held a nearly 25-minute conversation with star pass rusher Micah Parsons during the first day of Cowboys mandatory minicamp Tuesday.

At times during the conversation, Jones was demonstrative with his arms as he talked to Parsons near the end zone of the grass practice field at The Star in Frisco.

Parsons, who is seeking a contract extension, has been an infrequent visitor to the offseason program.

He said he did not talk about his contact situation with Jones. The two just chatted about how his offseason is going.

Parsons’ Offseason and Contract Situation

Parsons attended the mandatory minicamp Tuesday but didn’t work out.

“We’re talking about how my offseason’s been and the training I’ve been putting in and he told me I look pretty good and I got excited about that,” Parsons said.

Parsons said it’s up to Jones to make a phone call to his agent, David Mulugheta to get a contract done before training camp.

“I’m pretty hopeful, I’m still hanging tight,” Parsons said. “I understand it’s up to (Jones). He gives the green light on everything, so hopefully something is done by next month.”

Parsons declined to comment when asked why couldn’t Mulugheta call Jones to get the process started. The Cowboys’ pass rusher also expressed some surprise that a deal hasn’t been completed considering some other pass rushers, such as Cleveland’s Myles Garrett, have a new deal. Garrett is the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL.

“Yeah, some people like to take their time more than others,” Parsons said. “You can’t rush the process. He wants the deal to go as cleanly as possible. I want the deal to go as cleanly as possible, so it’s just about getting it done as cleanly and quickly as possible.”

Trevon Diggs’ Attendance and Rehab

Cornerback Trevon Diggs, another player who has missed portions of the offseason program, was also in attendance Tuesday.

During the practice session, Diggs didn’t conduct any rehab work with Britt Brown, the Cowboys’ director of rehabilitation.

However, coach Brian Schottenheimer said Diggs worked out with Brown earlier in the day before reporters were present.

Diggs didn’t speak with reporters after Tuesday’s practice.

Minicamp Attendance and Injuries

The Cowboys had full attendance on the first day of minicamp.

The following players were not participating for health reasons: John Stephens, Sam Williams, DeMarvion Overshown, Shemar James, Donovan Wilson, Andrew Booth, Josh Butler and Shavon Revel.
