Arrest of a Fort Worth Independent School District Employee

A Fort Worth Independent School District employee was arrested Monday for allegedly having an improper relationship with a student at his former job, authorities say.

Adrian Buruato, the 29-year-old head baseball coach at O.D. Wyatt High School, is facing charges of indecency with a child, sexual contact and improper relationship between an educator and a student, according to a Thursday news release from the Hill County Sheriff’s Office. It also said he turned himself in to authorities Wednesday and was booked into Hill County Jail.

It’s not immediately clear if he has an attorney.

Background of the Case

The charges followed a March 10 complaint about an improper relationship between Buruato and an Itasca ISD female student that allegedly took place during the 2023-24 school year, according to the news release from the sheriff’s office.

It said the student was 15 years old at the time, while Buruato was working there as a head baseball coach and junior high history teacher.

Response from Itasca ISD

In a separate news release Thursday, Itasca ISD said the complaint contains allegations of sexual assault involving a female student and that the school district has been cooperating fully with the sheriff’s office.

It also said Itasca ISD Superintendent Tonya Harris immediately notified Fort Worth ISD Karen Molinar about the case due to Buruato’s employment at the North Texas district.

“The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority,” Harris said in the news release.

Fort Worth ISD Response

A Fort Worth ISD spokesperson said Friday afternoon that the district is unable to disclose further details because it is a personnel matter.

Ongoing Investigation

In addition, the sheriff’s office said Thursday that its investigation is ongoing and that its investigators are concerned that there could be more victims.
