Operation Safe Families and Domestic Violence Arrests
Dallas police officers arrested over 500 suspects accused of domestic violence crimes during the month of October, the department announced at a news conference Tuesday afternoon.
Officers launched Operation Safe Families in October, the same month designated to raise awareness about domestic violence abuse in the United States.
The goal was to target offenders with outstanding domestic violence warrants or those actively committing offenses, police Chief Daniel Comeaux said during the news conference.
“This is something we’re going to continue to focus on year round, and we’re going to do what’s necessary to bring justice to those that deserve justice,” he said.
Arrests and Cases
A total of 539 arrests were made, with the top 10 arrests being repeat offenders or felony charges, which the department considered “high profile,” police Lt. Ashley Lee, who oversees the department’s domestic violence unit, said.
“On average, the unit works approximately 14,000 domestic violence cases yearly,” Lee said. “This year we’ve worked 11,167 cases.”
Police did not disclose specific details about the arrests and suspects in an effort to keep the victims’ information private, Lee said.

“We want you to come forward and collect these services,” Lee said. “It’s our primary goal to protect you and your families.”
