Dallas police said Thursday that a suspect has been arrested in connection with an overnight weekend shooting in East Dallas earlier this month that left two people dead and three others hurt.
Alexis Armenta, 20, turned himself in to U.S. marshals and will be booked into the Dallas County jail on a capital murder charge, a police statement said.
Daniel Cojulum Villanueva, 20, died on Tuesday, Oct. 21 after being shot on Oct. 12 in East Dallas, police said.
Another victim, identified as Jacob Cuellar, 21, died after being shot early Oct. 12 in a parking lot near the 8300 block of La Prada Drive about 1:30 a.m., police said.
What Happened
On the night of Oct. 12, a witness, who was shot in the leg, said there had been a party at a bar at the location before the shooting, according to an arrest-warrant affidavit. An argument occurred between the suspect and victims before gunfire erupted at the location, according to police.
After arriving, police viewed surveillance footage that captured the argument between Cuellar, Armenta and another witness, according to court records.
In the video, the three were talking on the sidewalk with multiple people when Cuellar walked up to Armenta and assaulted him, according to court records.
The suspect then pulled out a firearm and began to rapidly fire in Cuellar’s direction as others stood nearby. The shooter continued to fire rounds while fleeing, according to court records. Police said in the affidavit that no one else appeared to be shooting in the footage.
Police have not said what the men were arguing about before the gunfire occurred.
