Hendy’s: A New Chapter for Sfuzzi
Sfuzzi closed in February 2025 and is expected to reopen as Hendy’s, an American restaurant, in May 2025. The new name pays homage to its location on Henderson Avenue.
A Development in the Making
Hendy’s will be situated near a development a few blocks away, which aims to revitalize Henderson Avenue. The project will feature "10 architecturally distinct buildings with landscaped walkways and multiple public spaces," and is expected to be completed by fall 2026. A New York real estate trust paid just over $85 million for the land.
The Transformation
The transformation from Sfuzzi to Hendy’s is right on time, according to co-owner Brandon Hays. "It makes Henderson a viable sister to Knox," he said, referencing the retail and restaurant sector between North Central Expressway and the Katy Trail.
Hays likens the growth of Henderson Avenue to the boom on the east side of Austin. "There were already great restaurants here, like Gemma," he notes. "It also has plenty of newcomers like Local Public Eatery, Lawnie’s, and The Charlotte. New York City slice joint Prince Street Pizza is coming soon."
The New Menu and Bar
The Hendy’s space will get a refresh, with more natural light. It had been a dark place best known as the Capitol Pub, which closed in 2019. The change signals another end for Sfuzzi, a restaurant that grew across Dallas in the 1980s and 1990s.
Dallas chef Peja Krstic will design the menu for Hendy’s. Krstic, owner of Michelin-lauded restaurant Mot Hai Ba and new bistro Pillar, was executive chef at Standard Pour, where he worked with Hays. The bar will feature classic cocktails and a "concise but quality" wine list, according to Hays.
