Dallas will get a 20-course restaurant, Punk Noir. Can it ‘disrupt’ fine dining?

Must read

Introduction to Punk Noir

Does Dallas need more restaurants selling more than a dozen courses of food? It’ll get another one in early 2026 with Punk Noir, a 20-course tasting menu its owners describe as “unforgettable” and “irreverent.”

The restaurant is expected to open in the Design District, one of Dallas’ busiest neighborhoods for new restaurants right now.

Unlike many Dallas tasting-menu restaurants that are small and serene, Punk Noir is a 9,500 square-foot space with graffiti-covered rooms.

Notably, however, the number of people who fit inside Punk Noir is still small, at 26 per seating. Those who want to pay for a “VIP car service” can be picked up from their home or work and driven into the restaurant. Car service or not, diners will then “move through multiple spaces,” a news release describes, “from a dramatic communal dining room with projection-mapped visuals and graffiti art led by the Mistress of Ceremonies, to an open kitchen … to an intimate neon-lit dining room.” The evening finishes in a lounge.

About Punk Noir

Punk Noir comes from Dallas native John McKeel and his sons Cole and Clay McKeel. They were inspired to open Punk Noir after traveling to some of World’s 50 Best and Michelin-starred restaurants across the globe.

The restaurant opening is right on time, as Michelin arrived in Texas for the first time in 2024. Established and new restaurants alike are offering tasting menus in Dallas-Fort Worth like never before. A few weeks ago, a tiny restaurant in downtown Dallas opened with a $245 per person dinner menu.

The price of dinner has not been set yet at Punk Noir, a spokeswoman confirmed.

Chef and Menu

The menu comes from chef R.J. Cooper, who won a James Beard award for Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic in 2007 Washington, D.C., at a restaurant called Vidalia.

It isn’t clear yet what will be on Punk Noir’s menu. Food will be “playful and provocative,” the release said.

Co-owner John McKeel told NBC he has “aspirations to create the city’s first-ever 2-star Michelin restaurant” in a May 2025 news story. To date, Texas has no 2- or 3- star restaurants.

“We are here to challenge the norms of traditional fine dining; [to] turn the Dallas dining scene on its head,“ John McKeel said in a statement.

“We are disruptors.”

Punk Noir is expected to open at 139 Turtle Creek Blvd., Dallas, in 2026.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Punk Noir is set to bring a unique dining experience to Dallas with its 20-course tasting menu and immersive atmosphere. With its opening in 2026, it is sure to be a hotspot for foodies and those looking for a special night out.
