Cowboys to unveil Lamb-Pickens duo in opener, but will they benefit one another?

Must read

Cowboys’ Preseason Strategy and Excitement for the Upcoming Season

FRISCO — The Cowboys, according to head coach Brian Schottenheimer, purposefully played their cards close to the vest this preseason. Schottenheimer said it’s a luxury unique to them because it’s been half a decade since he’s been a full-time play caller.

Schottenheimer wanted a mystery. It wasn’t the only one he and the Cowboys hatched this preseason.

The Mystery of the Wide Receivers

While CeeDee Lamb, a four-time Pro Bowler, and George Pickens — averaging over 1,000 yards per season in his career — have been good individually, there’s plenty of intrigue about how they’ll play together. People around the Cowboys have indicated that each of the wide receivers will benefit each other, providing a level of playmaking neither have had by their sides yet in their careers.

Excitement for the Upcoming Season

Outside of practice, we just haven’t seen it yet. On Thursday against the Eagles, we will — a fact that excites both the receivers, as well.

“I’m very excited,” Lamb said on Monday. “I can’t even put it into words. I tell my camp back at home — my brothers, my family, my friends — how excited I am.

“We’ve got to go out there and do what we do, every day, as we’ve been doing and just continue that throughout the season.”

Pickens said he’s already seen the benefits of playing with Lamb in practice.

“It affects it a lot,” Pickens said. “I can tell definitely when I’m running routes prior to where I was running routes [in Pittsburgh]. You could see them doubling the stars and doubling me and then we had the run game. Here, you’ve got CeeDee, me, [KaVontae Turpin], [and Jalen Tolbert], so you have to focus on a lot of guys.”

The First Chance to See it in Action

Thursday will be the first chance to see it in action. Pickens and Lamb aren’t the only ones excited to see it on display.

“To be the guy that gets them the ball,” Prescott said earlier this offseason, “it’s exciting as hell.”
