A Cuban migrant has been indicted on capital murder charges in connection with the brutal beheading of a man at a Dallas motel in September, according to court records.
Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, 37, was formally charged with capital murder in the death of Chandra Nagamallaiah, 50, on Oct. 23, court records show.
The Incident
Dallas police responded to reports of a stabbing at about 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 10 at the Downtown Suites motel in the 3400 block of Samuell Boulevard.
Witnesses reported seeing Cobos-Martinez, who had been living and working at the motel, argue with the Nagamallaiah before grabbing a machete and attacking him.
Nagamallaiah’s wife and son attempted to stop the attack but were pushed out of the way by Cobos-Martinez, witnesses reported.
The attack continued until Nagamallaiah was decapitated and Cobos-Martinez allegedly put the victim’s head in a dumpster, The News previously reported.
Arrest and Charges
Dallas Fire-Rescue pronounced Nagamallaiah dead at the scene.
Cobos-Martinez was arrested and as of Wednesday remains in the Dallas County jail with a bond amount set at $1.25 million.
Cobos-Martinez has been assigned an attorney, records show.

Cobos-Martinez is an undocumented migrant from Cuba and had a prior deportation order to the country, Tricia McLaughlin, a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security, previously told The News.
