Democratic U.S. Senate Hopeful James Talarico Unveils Endorsements from 100 Elected Officials Across Texas
Democratic U.S. Senate hopeful James Talarico on Tuesday unveiled endorsements from 100 elected officials across Texas, including 19 leaders from rival Colin Allred’s home turf.
The list includes U.S. Rep. Julie Johnson, D-Farmers Branch, who represents the congressional district Allred flipped from red to blue in 2018. Also backing Talarico are six Democrats in the Texas House — John Bryant and Aicha Davis of Dallas, Linda Garcia of Mesquite, Cassandra Garcia Hernandez of Farmers Branch, Terry Meza of Irving and Ramon Romero of Fort Worth.
There’s also support from local government officials, including Dallas County Commissioner Andy Sommerman and Dallas City Council member Jaime Resendez.
Statewide, Talarico, a state representative from Austin, has the backing of at least 30 Texas House Democrats and two Texas senators, Sarah Eckhardt of Austin and Roland Gutierrez of San Antonio, who challenged Allred in the 2024 Senate primary for the seat held by Republican Ted Cruz.
Political Points
“I’m honored to have the trust and support of more than 100 local elected officials from every corner of Texas,” Talarico said in a news release. “From El Paso to Beaumont, from our biggest cities to our smallest towns, these leaders know their communities best, and I’ll be listening to them every step of the way as we build a Texas that actually works for working people.”

Talarico’s support from 100 elected leaders across Texas is in concert with strong fundraising totals. Less than four weeks after his Sept. 9 campaign launch, Talarico hauled in $6.2 million. Allred raised $4.1 million over the first three months of his campaign.

Campaign Updates
Allred, the former congressman from Dallas and 2024 Senate nominee against Cruz, has been in the 2026 Senate race since July 1. Talarico’s early support suggests that Allred may have to fight to win big in the Dallas area, where he’s been an elected candidate since winning District 32 in 2018.
Allred this week showcased new supporters based in Houston, including U.S. Rep. Lizzie Fletcher, state Reps. Charlene Ward Johnson and Alma Allen, along with Houston City Council member Ed Pollard.
His Dallas-area Democratic support previously announced includes U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey of Fort Worth, along with state Reps. Toni Rose and Venton Jones of Dallas and Rhetta Andrews Bowers of Rowlett. Former U.S. trade representative and former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk has also backed Allred.
