Police are seeking the public’s help finding a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting over the weekend in Mesquite, officials say.

Officers were dispatched about 4:20 p.m. Sunday for a welfare check at a home in the 2000 block of Avis Circle, near Spring Lake drive, according to Lt. Michael Kelly, a spokesman for the Mesquite Police Department.
When officers arrived, the family of a woman who lived at the home told them they were concerned, Kelly said, and provided enough information to lead authorities to force entry inside.
There, they found the woman, identified by police as 42-year-old Keisha Hillard, dead of a gunshot wound, Kelly said.

Detectives, according to Kelly, have identified Christopher Witt, also 42, as the suspected shooter. Kelly said Hillard and Whitt had been in a long-term relationship.
