Summer Heat Lingers, But Fall is Coming

The residual summer heat just won’t quit.

2025 now holds the record for the latest arrival of overnight temperatures in the 50s. The previous record was Oct. 16, 2007.

John Nielsen-Gammon, Texas’ state climatologist, said the arrival of those crisper overnight lows is usually a good indicator of fall’s arrival. Historically, the average arrival of that benchmark is Sept. 21, close to the autumnal equinox.

But even though it’s been warmer than we’d like, a change is coming.
