A Mexican citizen is among those injured in the Wednesday morning shooting at an ICE detention center in Dallas, officials said.

Mexican authorities confirmed that a man was hospitalized as a result of the shooting, although they did not release his name or information about his condition.

“It is unfortunate that a Mexican citizen was a victim, but we are providing all consular assistance to his immediate family to offer them whatever support is necessary,” Eloy Monge, Consul for Protection and Legal Affairs at the Consulate General of Mexico in Dallas, said to The Dallas Morning News.

Monge said it cannot yet be ruled out that other Mexicans were affected in the shooting, but that the case of the hospitalized person is the only one that has been confirmed to them by U.S. authorities.

“The consular representation contacted his family to provide them with the appropriate support and legal advice,” SRE stated in a release. “They are also in constant communication with the authorities conducting the investigation and are awaiting authorization to visit the Mexican national in the hospital.”

Monge said they received multiple phone calls asking about the wellbeing of their relatives, who were detained or were in the vicinity of ICE, and all have been given information that has allowed them to know that their loved ones were not affected.
