Each day over 150 journalists in our newsroom come together to produce our news coverage. If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to be a reporter, we are offering an inside look into how our paper gets made.

In this free hands-on workshop, our staff will guide you and a team as you collaborate on producing a newspaper. You’ll learn how to:

• Write the lead to a news story
• Select quotes
• Structure a news story from start to finish
• Write headlines

What You Will Learn

In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to learn from experienced journalists and gain hands-on experience in producing a newspaper. You will learn how to write a news story, select quotes, structure a news story, write headlines, and pick eye-catching photos.

You will also get to rub elbows with The News reporters and editors to see how they make decisions in real time. We’ll explore the ethical and editorial decisions journalists make, the challenges of misinformation and the importance of evaluating the news you consume.
