Severe Weather Hits North Texas

After a day in which North Texas saw some of the hottest weather of the season, several people were hurt during a Thursday evening pop-up storm in Grayson County that was also blamed for overturning several RVs at an area mobile home park.

According to a Facebook post by the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, the area of Gunter in the 1000 block of Fox Lane was left with “significant damage” after the storm.

“We are asking all residents to stay clear of the area and allow emergency personnel to assist those in need and secure the scene,” the social media post said.

According to the sheriff’s office, the region had been under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning from 8:15 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. when a downburst of air resulted in strong straight-line winds that lashed the area and overturned at least six RVs at The Good Shepherd RV Park.

Storm Damage and Injuries

Judge Bruce Dawsey told WFAA-TV Thursday night that no one was home in several of the RV home and the residents who were home only suffered minor injuries.

“We were fortunate that there were no significant injuries tonight,” he said, adding that some residents sought medical treatment on their own and did not require to be transported by ambulance.

Sweltering Heat Blankets North Texas

The storms in the northern part of Dallas-Fort Worth followed a string of days in which the mercury surged past the century mark.

The week has been a sizzler, with triple-digit days outpacing each other in relatively short order.

The Dallas-Fort Worth area hit 100 degrees for the first time this year on Tuesday, a much-awaited milestone that often arrives earlier. Then, triple digits remained on Wednesday and Thursday, climbing up to 103 degrees by 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office.

The temperatures have resulted in a heat advisory over much of North Texas each day this week. But Friday may bring change: Chances of rain Thursday evening and Friday are expected to bring the high down to 96 degrees. The maximum temperature is expected to continue dropping over the weekend as the chance of showers continues, with a high in the low-90s Saturday.

But despite those promising temperatures, humidity in the area is expected to shoot back up Friday, bringing the “feels like” temperature up to a maximum of 105.
