How dangerous could Cowboys’ offense be in 2025? Let Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb explain

Cowboys Offense Looking Strong with CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott

OXNARD, Calif. — You can see it in his face. Hear it in his voice. Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is excited about what this offense can be for him and quarterback Dak Prescott.

“Everybody stays healthy we’re going to be into something,” he said.

That something is the addition of George Pickens at wide receiver, a healthy Lamb and Prescott, who missed a total of 11 games last season with injuries, and improvements in other areas.

New Additions and Improvements

You can bring in tight end Jake Ferguson, motivated going into a contract year, a much better offensive line, and, oh yes, new coach Brian Schottenheimer adding some juice to the offense.

Lamb and Pickens combined for 4,995 yards with 26 touchdowns over the last two seasons. Both receivers can inflict damage with deep passes and plays over the middle of the field. Lamb produced 1,278 yards after the catch over the last two seasons. Pickens, who missed three games himself with health issues, had 679 over the same time span.

Offensive Strategy

Schottenheimer said he wants more motion in the offense to keep the defenses guessing. He plans on lining up Lamb, Pickens and fellow receiver KaVontae Turpin in different spots of the line of scrimmage. In the first three practices of training camp, we’ve seen Turpin and Lamb lined up in the backfield.

Quarterback Performance

Prescott, healthy after tearing his hamstring last season, is displaying an ability to run from the pocket downfield, moving around with bootlegs and when feeling the pressure.

Whether it’s Prescott or backup Joe Milton III, the Cowboys are going down the seam to their tight ends Luke Schoonmaker and Ferguson.

Prescott said if corners sit on out routes from Pickens, not to worry — he’ll go deep.

Coach’s Perspective

“For him, it’s about him continuing to master the offense,” Prescott said. “The routes and the adjustments on certain routes. When he does that, the rest of it is going to come. That’s important for all of us. The guy hadn’t been here too long, so it’s about making sure he’s comfortable in the system and knowing what he has, whether he has the ball in that connection.”

Past Performance and Future Prospects

It wasn’t like the Cowboys’ offense was bad under Mike McCarthy, the previous head coach/play caller. Last season, the Cowboys finished 17th in total offensive yards (5,567) and 25th in yards per play (5.0).

But in 2023, they led the NFL in points scored (509). They also finished fifth in total yards (6,317) and sixth in yards per play (5.6). The previous season, they finished 10th in total yards (6,034), but 15th in yards per play (5.4).

There’s no guarantees that whatever Schottenheimer uses in 2025 will work. He does have the pieces to have a dynamic offense and the buy-in.

And using presnap motion, something McCarthy didn’t use enough in some circles, could bring much more to this offense.

Running Game and Offensive Line

The biggest question mark is the running game. Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders are competing for the starting gig and Schottenheimer hinted a rotation could be on the way once the regular season starts.

Left tackle Tyler Guyton enters Year 2 looking for a bounce back and the Cowboys will have a rookie left guard in Tyler Booker starting.

Player’s Perspective

So many questions, but if you speak to Lamb, he knows the answers because he’s one of them.

“I feel like the league knows what happens when I’m healthy and I have Dak for a whole season,” Lamb said. “But if you don’t, I will happily show you what it’s going to be like this year. I’m a dominant receiver. I don’t like to speak highly of myself, but I can’t wait to show you guys.”

Conclusion

The Cowboys offense is looking strong with CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott leading the charge. With new additions and improvements, the team is poised to make a deep run in the playoffs
