Recent Restaurant Closures in D-FW

Must read

The summer months have brought news of quite a few restaurant openings in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, but there have been a handful of closures, too.

Here are several restaurants that recently closed or are soon to close, listed in alphabetical order:

Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse in The Colony

When Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse opened in The Colony in 2020, owner of the Boston-based chain, Steve DiFillippo, said he hoped “to do many restaurants in Texas.” That location is now closed, leaving the company without any current presence in Texas, according to the company’s website.

Niwa Japanese BBQ in Deep Ellum

After nine years on Deep Ellum’s Main Street, Niwa Japanese BBQ has closed its doors. In a social media post, ownership said, “We truly wish we could have kept going for another 9 (or more!),” but that the restaurant is closed for the foreseeable future.

Niwa Japanese BBQ was located at 2939 Main St., Dallas. It closed June 28, 2025.

Pizzeria Testa in East Dallas

Pizzeria Testa closed after a seven-year run on Greenville Avenue, but the space will soon be home to another restaurant from Jeff Bekavac and Austin Rodgers, who own and operate Goodwins and Alamo Club also on Greenville Avenue. The original Pizzeria Testa location in Frisco remains open.

Red Stix in University Park

Owner of Red Stix, chef Uno Immanivong, said issues with parking and ongoing construction in Snider Plaza and along Hillcrest Avenue contributed to the restaurant’s closure, along with higher rent and the rising cost of food and labor. “If I’m being honest, maybe we weren’t the right fit at that location,” she said.

Another Red Stix remains in business at Farmers Branch’s Mustang Station, and Immanivong is opening a new catering kitchen in Dallas next week.

Red Stix was located at 6501 Hillcrest Ave., Dallas. It closed July 12, 2025.

Staycation Coffee in Richardson

This popular Richardson coffee shop was prepping to move out of the 1940s home it’s located in, but instead its owner, Nicole Gregory, recently announced on social media that it will close Sept. 28. She said she hopes it is “simply a hiatus.”

Staycation Coffee is located at 201 S. Texas St., Richardson. It is set to close Sept. 28, 2025.
