The FBI is searching for a Dallas man who has been charged with six federal crimes following a July Fourth attack at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center in North Texas. Federal authorities said it was a “planned ambush.”
The 32-year-old man, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves for five years, is being charged with three counts of attempted murder of a federal officer and three federal firearms crimes. He has not been indicted, according to federal court records.
The Independence Day attack at the Prairieland Detention Center resulted in an Alvarado Police Department officer being shot in the neck. The officer survived the attack.
The Dallas Morning News is not naming the suspect because he has not been arrested.

The FBI is searching for the individual and considers him to be armed and dangerous, according to a news release from the U.S. attorney’s office for the North District of Texas. Many cellphones in North Texas received a “Blue Alert” Wednesday evening advising people about the manhunt and urging them to call the FBI hotline or 911 if they see the suspect or know his whereabouts.
A total of 12 people have been charged with federal crimes in the attack at the detention center in Alvarado, about 25 miles south of Fort Worth.
Wednesday night’s announcement means that 11 people are now charged with three counts of attempted murder and federal firearms crimes in connection with the incident. One of those 11 remains at large. The 10 that are in custody were arrested over the weekend and all but one are from North Texas.
The 12th suspect is also in custody after being arrested and charged with tampering with evidence and conspiracy to tamper with evidence, court records show.
In a statement, Nancy Larson, acting U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Texas, said the 32-year-old man still at large will be “relentlessly pursued until he is in custody.”

She had earlier described the attack on the ICE facility as a “planned ambush with the attempt to kill ICE correction officers.”
Larson praised the response of the nearly 70 law enforcement officers who responded to the attack, saying they “hemmed in several of the attackers.”
According to the criminal complaint for the 32-year-old man, which was unsealed Wednesday, he purchased four of the guns that were found and linked to the shooting at the detention center. Three of the weapons that had been purchased by the man were AR-15 style rifles, the complaint said.
A suspect who has already been charged told authorities that the man traveled with another suspect to the Prairieland Detention Center on Friday night, according to the complaint. Location data showed the man’s cellphone was within “several hundred meters” of the detention center on the night of the attack, the complaint said.
The man was a reservist for the U.S. Marine Corps from 2011 to 2016 and received an “other than honorable discharge,” the complaint said. That classification is given when a trooper engages in behavior that is a “significant departure” from the conduct expected of a service member.
The complaint does not say why the man was given that discharge.
