Cooper Flagg’s Summer League Debut
Cooper Flagg’s Summer League debut started with a bang. Playing in his first official unofficial game with the Mavericks’ summer squad, Flagg pretty instantly showed Mavericks fans what all the “No. 1 pick” hype was about.
A little over five minutes into the 10-minute first quarter, Flagg made a steal on the defensive end and went streaking the other direction with the ball — in turn showing off some of that floor-running ability the Mavericks say they’re trying to test out in the Summer League.
Flagg’s Impressive Performance
Flagg went coast to coast and finished it off with a thunderous slam for his first field goal of the summer, the first time he’s scored in an organized game in a Mavericks uniform. Head coach Jason Kidd, who’s in attendance for Thursday’s game in Vegas, was interviewed at halftime and told the broadcast about his view of the dunk.
“I had a great seat, got excited to see No. 32 get an easy one,” Kidd said. “It was with a dunk, but again he’s shown that he can handle the press. The Lakers sent a double-team on the first play of the game, I think that was out of respect.”
Flagg’s Skillset on Display
Later on Flagg hit a nice turnaround jumper over Bronny James, son and teammate of LeBron. He finished his first quarter of Summer League play with eight points. Mavericks fans got a glimpse of Flagg’s versatile skillset and why he was the consensus No. 1 pick.
Nembhard was Dallas’ leading scorer in the team’s first Summer League game of 2025.
