The same day No. 1 overall NBA draft pick Cooper Flagg was nabbed by the Dallas Mavericks, an enterprising Texas restaurateur created a pizza in his honor.
Motor City Pizza in Lewisville, a restaurant in the Dallas suburbs known for naming dishes after Texas athletes and teams, is now cooking up a Cooper Flagg Pizza.
“I just wanted to welcome Cooper to the metroplex and help the fans celebrate,” said pizza shop owner Greg Tierney. He called Draft Day a “monumental moment for the Mavs.”
One of the last times The Dallas Morning News featured Motor City Pizza, they were slinging a Luka Doncic pie. Ouch. Nearly five months ago, Doncic was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.

His Cooper Flagg Pizza is topped with the ingredients in a chicken, bacon and ranch cheesesteak, which Tierney said is one of Flagg’s favorite foods.
It’ll come as a Detroit-style pizza — the thicker-crust, rectangular pie the Lewisville restaurant is known for — priced at $16.95 or $24.95. The Cooper Flagg Pizza can also be ordered as a 14-inch circular pizza with a thinner crust for $18.95.
Flagg recently snagged a Gatorade sponsorship. Bedford-based brewery Turning Point has just the drink: a blue Gatorade beer called Sportz Glacial Frost. It’s 6.3% alcohol by volume.
Turning Point has made it since 2019, but it’s now more timely than ever.
“We are huge D-FW area sports fans,” said Turning Point Beer co-founder Jon Paul “JP” Goytia.
Superfans can buy both the pizza and the beer at Motor City.
The 6-9 athlete made headlines recently when he was spotted eating dinner at the original Bob’s Steak and Chop House on Dallas’ Lemmon Avenue.
Flagg has now been invited to East Dallas restaurant Burger Schmurger, which already sold a burger called the Maverick long before Flagg signed with the team. The Maverick is a two-patty beef smashburger with American cheese, smoked pork belly jam and a slice of provolone. The News called it Dallas’ best burger in 2023.
According to Instagram, Dallas’ newest Mav has a standing invitation for “unlimited” servings of the Maverick at Burger Schmurger. We wonder how many he could eat.
