Weather Update: Storms to Hit North Texas as Spring Comes to an End

Overnight storms are headed to North Texas, keeping things damp as the spring months come to an end. The group of thunderstorms is expected to move in from the northwest, reaching the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area by 10 p.m. at the earliest. The most likely timing for storms is midnight to 3 a.m. as the storm system pushes through to the southeast.

The storms are expected to bring heavy rain, hail, and strong winds to the area. The greatest threat of hail or strong winds is for counties near Cisco, Waco or Killeen. Frequent lightning is also possible in that area. Residents in these areas should be prepared for the possibility of severe weather and take necessary precautions to stay safe.

Storms Come After Recurring Rains in May

The storms come on the tail of recurring rains throughout May. 11 days so far have seen at least a trace amount of precipitation, but for the month in total, Dallas-Fort Worth is only about 0.1 inches above average. This is likely because only a few days have experienced a significant downpour. Memorial Day has been the wettest day in May so far, with over 2 inches falling.
