Dallas Police Department Fires Three Employees Facing Felony Charges
A Dallas police sergeant and two civilian employees, all facing felony charges for unrelated incidents, were fired Thursday following disciplinary hearings, the department announced.
Sgt. Matthew Terry, records unit supervisor Sheri Brown and research specialist Patsy Evans were fired after a “careful review” of their cases, Dallas police Chief Daniel Comeaux said in a message to The Dallas Morning News, adding the decisions were made “in line with the policies and standards we’re expected to uphold.”
“We take our responsibility to the community seriously and that includes holding ourselves to the same laws we enforce,” the chief said after the department’s announcement.
Terry nor his legal counsel immediately responded to an email seeking comment Thursday afternoon. Attempts to reach Brown and Evans after the announcement were not immediately successful.

Incident Involving Sgt. Matthew Terry
A Department of Public Safety trooper arrested Terry on May 2 in Delta County, located about 70 miles northeast of downtown Dallas, after smelling a “heavy odor” of alcohol during a traffic stop, the trooper wrote in an arrest-warrant affidavit obtained by The News through a records request.
A child in the vehicle was between the ages of 9 and 11 years old, according to a report reviewed by The News. Terry faces one count of driving while intoxicated with a child passenger, a state jail felony.
In addition to the May 2 arrest, Terry was terminated for being “untruthful to a supervisor,” the release says, though it does not provide additional information about the alleged incident.
Terry joined the department in September 2006 and was named the Chief’s Officer of the Year at the department’s annual banquet in 2023.
