Flood Watch in Effect for Dallas-Fort Worth

Dallas-Fort Worth is under a flood watch through Tuesday morning as relentless Memorial Day storms drench much of North Texas. The watch is in effect for northern, eastern and central North Texas until 7 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Widespread rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected in much of the region, including Dallas-Fort Worth, while others areas — namely a stretch near Waco and Palestine — may reach 4 to 6 inches. “Give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination and never drive into flooded roadways!” NWS meteorologists wrote in the forecast.

D-FW Weather Wise: From snow to 100-degree heat, we’ve got you covered. Periods of heavy rain are expected to continue through tonight. Some locations will pick up more than 3″. The greatest flooding threat will be from noon Monday until after midnight. Power Outages and Storm Damage

The storms had knocked out power for more than 46,000 customers Monday morning, according to Oncor’s outage map. Nearly 8,000 of those outages were in Dallas County, another 8,000 were in Tarrant County and more than 10,000 were in Collin County.

If you’re experiencing a power outage, you can check the status of outages in your area using Oncor’s outage map. It’s also important to stay safe during a power outage by following some simple tips, such as keeping refrigerated food cold, using flashlights instead of candles, and avoiding downed power lines.

Forecast and Storms

After the morning’s storm complex clears, the weather service said scattered storms are expected to develop again about 4 p.m. Monday. The greatest storm coverage is expected across Central Texas on Monday evening and into the overnight hours, with the primary threats being damaging winds, large hail and heavy rainfall.

The possibility for tornadoes, the agency said, cannot be ruled out. If you’re planning to drive in the rain, make sure to follow some simple safety tips, such as slowing down, using low gear, and avoiding flooded roads.
