Recent Closures
Fernando’s Mexican Cuisine
Fernando’s announced in an Instagram post that it will close both its Dallas and CityLine outposts in Richardson on Sunday, May 18. Managing partner Anne Cowden said in the caption that the restaurant was unable to reach an agreement with its landlord on rent at the Dallas location after months of negotiations. The owners decided to close both locations since the lease in Richardson was also coming to an end, she wrote. Fernando’s opened its Dallas location in Preston Hollow in 2005.
TLC Vegan Cafe
ITLC Vegan Cafe’s chef-owner, Troy Gardner, announced online that he has closed his vegan restaurant in Richardson to launch a new company called Troy Gardner Productions. The chef did not immediately respond to Eater’s request for comment. Gardner opened TLC Vegan Cafe in 2020 and transitioned to a storefront in 2022, before competing on the Food Network series Beat Bobby Flay in 2023.
Miznon
The fast-casual Israeli street food spot, which opened in Deep Ellum in summer 2023, announced its permanent closure on Instagram. Miznon was the first Texas outpost for the international chain. Fans can still eat the hummus and other favorite dishes at its location in the Local Shacks at Austin Ranch in The Colony.
The Whippersnapper
Just shy of a decade after opening, this Henderson Avenue bar has closed its doors forever. Co-owner Brandon Hays announced in an email that the Whippersnapper will host a final round of “blowout parties” during the weekends of April 25 and 26, and May 2 and 3. Hays also hinted that something new is coming, adding, “[I]t’s not goodbye — it’s a see-you-soon. Stay tuned for what’s next as we embark on a new place to boogie.” The Whippersnapper hosted numerous pop-ups at the bar, including Beetlejuice-, Barbie-, Willy Wonka-, and Austin Powers-themed takeovers. This and That Hospitality, which owns the bar, also recently announced the closure of Sfuzzi on Henderson Avenue. New restaurant Hendy is slated to open in its place in June, according to Hendy’s Instagram profile.
