Jason Robertson’s Historic Night
Jason Robertson not only notched a hat trick Wednesday night against the Oilers, but he tallied a natural hat trick for the Dallas Stars. And not only did he tally a natural hat trick, he did so in one period.
In a span of 10:29 in the second period, Robertson found the back of the net three consecutive times, blowing the game open for Dallas and giving the Stars a 4-0 lead. His third goal proved to be the game-winning goal, as Dallas survived a late onslaught from Edmonton and came away with a 4-3 win.
What is a Natural Hat Trick?
A natural hat trick is when a player scores three straight goals in the game without anyone else scoring between the three goals and is considered an extremely difficult feat to pull off.
Robertson’s Achievement
Robertson’s single-period hat trick on Feb. 23 against the Islanders was the first time a Dallas player had pulled that feat off since Jamie Benn did it on April 7, 2018, but Robertson has now done it twice in five weeks.
Wednesday marked Robertson’s sixth career hat trick.
Career Milestones
His three goals were his 30th, 31st and 32nd goals of the season, meaning 2024-25 is his third career 30-goal campaign. Robertson is now the sixth player in Stars franchise history with three 30-goal seasons at age 25 or younger, joining Brian Bellows (5), Mike Modano (4), Steve Payne (4), Tyler Seguin (3) and Dino Ciccarellli (3).
