Random Attack in Deep Ellum Leaves Bride-to-Be Injured and Shaken
Just one month before Canada Rinaldi is set to walk down the aisle and exchange marital vows with her soon-to-be husband, she said Wednesday she is still looking forward to their big day despite being randomly attacked last weekend in Deep Ellum.
Rinaldi’s fun weekend with her friends quickly took a turn for the worse Sunday when she said she was brutally beaten by a man she did not know.
“I was just confused about why,” she said. “I kept asking, ‘Why, what happened?”
The Incident
The 27-year-old bride-to-be’s bachelorette trip was coming to an end Sunday, and the plan was to go out for a night on the town Saturday to wrap up their weekend.
It was nearing 2 a.m., and Rinaldi and her group of six friends were leaving Cash Cow – a night club in Deep Ellum – and waiting for their Uber.
The Uber arrived and as they were approaching the vehicle, an unidentified man sitting on the curb behind them, struck Rinaldi in the face and knocked her unconscious, Rinaldi’s aunt Kelly Peralta said.
As Peralta, 34, tried to push the attacker away, she said the man hit her in the face as well.
Peralta said the group of girls were just talking among themselves in the moments leading up to the attack, and they had no interactions with anyone around them beforehand.
Investigation and Aftermath
Dallas police are reportedly investigating the incident, and looking to identify and find Rinaldi’s attacker.
The next thing she remembers is waking up disoriented in the back of an ambulance.
“I don’t remember being hit or anything like that,” she said. “I remember not really knowing what was going on or what happened.”
Rinaldi said she also remembers continuously asking “why,” and if she did or said anything to upset the man, so when she was told no, she wondered why he did it.
According to Peralta, the man – described as between 5’ 8 and 5′ 10, with black facial hair and wearing a black hoodie with red writing, black pants and a backpack – is still believed to be at large.

Medical Expenses and Wedding Plans
The assault left Rinaldi with a concussion, eight stitches in her forehead, a broken nose, three broken teeth and over $10,000 in medical expenses, according to the GoFundMe account created to help her with medical expenses.
Dallas was selected as the destination for Rinaldi’s bachelorette trip, because she and her fiancée stayed in Dallas when he proposed to her at Texas Tulips.
While both Peralta, of Kansas, and Rinaldi, of Oklahoma, have both been to Dallas before, they had never been to Deep Ellum, which is situated near Old East Dallas.
And they both agreed, they likely won’t go back to the area.
“But I think the rest of our trip was great,” Rinaldi said. “Nobody could’ve seen this coming. I think it was just the wrong place, wrong time.”
Despite the events that occurred in the early morning hours of March 23, Rinaldi’s wedding is still on. It’s scheduled for April 26.

Emotional Toll
“It’s upsetting, because the last few months I’ve been changing a lot of things. I’ve been changing my skin care and just a lot of things that go into just feeling your best on a really important day,” she said.
“So I think it kind of sucks, because now I might not even look exactly like myself – it’s just really upsetting for me.”
Conclusion
The random attack on Canada Rinaldi in Deep Ellum has left her injured and shaken, but she remains determined to move forward with her wedding plans.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety and awareness, especially in unfamiliar areas.
