In Irving ISD, de Zavala Middle School, Hanes Elementary School, and Cardwell Career Preparatory Center were closed due to power issues, the district said on social media. De Zavala Middle School was near the location of the EF-1 tornado that hit Irving, causing significant damage to two apartment complexes, upending several utility poles and power lines, and damaging other homes.
Oncor’s Restoration Efforts
Irving ISD expects the power issues to be resolved by Thursday. According to Oncor, restoration efforts will continue on Wednesday and are expected to be mostly completed by Thursday evening. In the areas hit hardest by the storm, including Irving, McKinney, and Farmers Branch, restoration efforts may continue into Friday, Oncor said.

As of 8 a.m. on Wednesday, approximately 45,000 Oncor customers were still without power in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The numbers included 22,000 in Dallas County, 10,000 in Tarrant County, about 7,800 in Collin County, and 4,800 in Denton County.
