North Texas, We Aren’t Out of the Frigid Cold Yet

We aren’t out of the frigid cold yet, North Texas.

“Very cold weather will continue for one final day today,” the National Weather Service in Fort Worth warned.

The high temperature Friday will rise a few degrees above freezing but wind chill values throughout the day will cool that off to between 14 and 24 degrees in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Temperatures will plunge to below freezing overnight.

Winter Weather in Dallas-Fort Worth: What to Expect

A warmup begins this weekend, forecasts show. Highs will be near the 50s Saturday then 60s Sunday and into the 70s by early next week, according to the weather service.

This probably comes as a relief to most, following a week with back-to-back-to-back dangerously cold weather conditions that involved the weather service issuing a winter weather advisory and extreme cold warning paired with ERCOT’s weather watch.

Areas across the region also got some light snow and flurries toward the beginning of the week before the iciest of conditions occurred, creating the right environment for pipes to burst.

Record-Breaking Temperatures

Record-breaking temperatures occurred at least twice during that time with Thursday’s low temperature plummeting to 12 degrees at DFW International Airport. It broke the Feb. 20 low record of 19 degrees set in 1939.

The day before, Wednesday’s high temperature of 28 degrees set a daily record for Feb. 19 at DFW Airport. The old record of 31 degrees was set in 1903 and tied in 2006, according to the weather service.
