Introduction to the Game<\/h2>\n

Connor Bedard waited more than two years for his first NHL hat trick. He now has two hat tricks in his last 10 games.<\/p>\n

The young star\u2019s latest three-goal eruption led the Blackhawks past the Flames 5-2 on Tuesday, extending the Hawks\u2019 point streak to six consecutive games \u2014 their longest since 2019.<\/p>\n

Bedard ripped a perfect shot over Flames goalie Dustin Wolf off a perfect pass from rookie Ryan Greene to give the Hawks \u2014 who are now 10-5-4 \u2014 the lead for good with 15 minutes to play. <\/p>\n

Then he sealed the result with as impressive of an empty-net goal as you\u2019ll ever see: a 156-foot airborne shot after stealing the puck in the defensive zone.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s what stars do,\u201d Ryan Donato said.<\/p>\n

Bedard first got on the board in the second period, utilizing his increased speed to chase down a flipped-out puck and poke it through Wolf\u2019s five-hole. He\u2019s now tied for second in the league with 13 goals this season.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I like the most about it is the consistency in his approach,\u201d coach Jeff Blashill said. \u201cPoints do come and go. Now, for a guy like him, they come more than they go. But…he\u2019s competed and stopped on pucks and played pretty good defensively. [He] really tries to do the right things on a consistent basis, and then he gets rewarded for that with offense.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bedard\u2019s Leadership<\/h2>\n

With captain Nick Foligno out roughly four weeks with an injury, Bedard will also get an opportunity to step up as a leader in a more official role. <\/p>\n

He donned an \u201cA\u201d on his jersey Tuesday, joining long-tenured Connor Murphy as the two serving alternate captains.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the things we talked about at the beginning of the year is making sure we earn things,\u201d Blashill said. \u201cWe\u2019re not entitled to success; we\u2019re not entitled to wear a letter…. In his case, he\u2019s absolutely earned it. And when I told different people around the team today, everybody said the same thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

And when Murphy\u2019s head was crunched into the boards by a questionable hit in the third period, it was Bedard who performed the usual captain\u2019s duties by negotiating with the referees, arguing Flames forward Adam Klapka had time to pull up.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe refs were way nicer to me today \u2014 way nicer,\u201d Bedard said, smiling wide. \u201cI didn\u2019t get kicked out of a draw for the first time in my career.\u201d<\/p>\n

Team Support<\/h2>\n

Injured forward Jason Dickinson, one of the usual alternate captains, said Monday he has faith in the faces of the team\u2019s next generation \u2014 Bedard, Frank Nazar and Alex Vlasic \u2014 to carry the load.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re being leaders in their game,\u201d Dickinson said. "[From] Frank, in particular, I\u2019ve seen a big step. And Connor. They\u2019ve definitely taken it upon their shoulders to say, \u2018I\u2019m going to win games for us, night after night.\u2019 That sort of leadership has been nice to see.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brossoit\u2019s Appearance<\/h2>\n

A ghost appeared Monday at Fifth Third Arena: injured goalie Laurent Brossoit.<\/p>\n

Brossoit, 32, previously seemed destined to complete his two-year Hawks contract without ever playing a game. Now it sounds like he\u2019s finally on track to eventually play hockey again, although that process will take time.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe says he feels good, to be honest,\u201d Blashill said. \u201cHe\u2019s excited to be back and have the opportunity to be around more shooters and start to get from a really controlled environment into a less controlled environment.\u201d<\/p>\n

For now, Brossoit is working individually with goalie coach Jimmy Waite and a few forwards at a time, but he plans to eventually rejoin team practices. After that, he would probably need a minor-league conditioning stint before playing in any NHL games.<\/p>\n

If that process goes smoothly \u2014 and it hasn\u2019t in the past \u2014 the Hawks would then need to decide what to do with Brossoit, since Spencer Knight and Arvid Soderblom have formed a strong tandem this season. <\/p>\n

A trade might be most likely, if there\u2019s any interest. He did post an excellent.927 save percentage across 33 games in 2022-23 and 2023-24 with the Golden Knights and Jets, respectively.<\/p>\n

Dickinson\u2019s Frustration<\/h2>\n

Dickinson has been sidelined by three different ailments in 2025 \u2014 including a wrist injury that required offseason surgery and an apparent (albeit unconfirmed) shoulder injury right now. It\u2019s understandably frustrating to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s easy, if it\u2019s the same thing, to be like, \u2018Oh, we\u2019ve just got to get that right,\u2019\u201d Dickinson said. \u201cBut it\u2019s one thing after the other. Can\u2019t seem to figure that out.\u201d<\/p>\n

He has been in and out of the lineup this season, missing 11 of 19 games so far. He regretted trying to push through the injury in his last appearance Oct. 30 in Winnipeg; doing so led to a re-aggravation.<\/p>\n

Now, he has learned to be more cautious. That\u2019s why he hasn\u2019t yet returned to action despite practicing for days now.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel really good, but last week I wasn\u2019t confident to not go out there and re-injure it again,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t want to [keep being in and out]. It\u2019s hard on me; it\u2019s hard on the group. It\u2019s not fair to anybody to do that. I\u2019ve got to make sure I\u2019m at a point where, when I come back, I\u2019m going to be back for good.\u201d<\/p>\n
