Red and yellow crime scene tape blocked off the street where the shooting happened, and at least 10 Chicago police cruisers were parked nearby, some with blue lights flashing. A Super Save gas station was inside the police perimeter and closed as of 4 p.m.<\/p>\n
Brandon Haskins, who lives in the neighborhood, was delivering materials for his logistics company when he heard the gun shots. He panicked, not knowing where they were coming from, then relaxed a bit when he realized they were a few blocks away. \u201cIt appeared to be a volley of shots, as if two people were shooting back and forth at each other,\u201d said Haskins, 38, who has lived in the neighborhood since he was a kid. \u201cI heard the shots so I froze, then when I determined that the shots weren\u2019t close enough to be aimed at me, I went and got up out of there and got to safety.\u201d Haskins said he didn\u2019t see anyone involved in the shooting.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnfortunately it happens all too often,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s sad to say, I don\u2019t want to say it\u2019s the norm, but it happens so often you kind of become numb to it. Growing up on the south side of Chicago automatically comes with PTSD.\u201d The incident has raised concerns among the community, with many calling for increased safety measures and an end to the violence.<\/p>\n
