BUCKTOWN \u2014 A two-level restaurant, bar, coffee shop and market that\u2019s the first and only private business directly connected to The 606\u2019s Bloomingdale Trail is ready to welcome neighbors for everything from a quick latte to a sit-down dinner.<\/p>\n
Wolf & Company, 1744 N. Western Ave., opens 7 a.m. Monday. Besides a main entrance on Western, the business will be accessible via a ramp from The 606 that connects to the Trailhead Apartments building.<\/p>\n
The restaurant and cafe is the latest spot from Sol Ashbach, Gus Lappas and Ankur Joshi, the team behind Little Bad Wolf\u00a0and\u00a0The Good Wolf\u00a0in Andersonville and Gretel in Logan Square.<\/p>\n
But Wolf & Company is different from anything they\u2019ve done before \u2014 and from pretty much anything else in Chicago.<\/p>\n
On the ground floor, customers will find a restaurant and bar, a market with grocery items and a deli and butcher shop. Flowers and gifts are also available, plus beer, wine and liquor. <\/p>\n
Upstairs, a cafe will serve coffee and espresso drinks as well as pastries and lighter fare. The second floor also houses a bar and lounge area that will be open to all during the day before it\u2019s converted to full-service for dinner. <\/p>\n
Wolf & Company\u2019s patio space parallel to The 606 will be open seating in the morning but will be used for full-service dining starting during the lunch hour.<\/p>\n
Ashbach said he hopes Wolf & Company becomes a \u201cone-stop shop\u201d for neighbors who want to grab a bite, a coffee, a cocktail or grocery items for dinner.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis allows people to have a place to meet up and get a cup of coffee, grab a quick lunch, or take an evening walk and get a full dinner, or if they want \u2026 to do a little grocery shopping,\u201d Ashbach said.<\/p>\n

Western Ave. Credit:<\/span> Quinn Myers\/Block Club Chicago<\/span><\/p>\n The restaurant at Wolf & Company will have a large menu that includes burgers \u2014 with one similar to that at Little Bad Wolf and Gretel \u2014 as well as steaks, seafood and pasta.<\/p>\n Ashbach said the butcher shop and grocery component mean it will have a large and diverse menu, which has been crafted by chef Graham Akroyd. <\/p>\n In some ways, that\u2019s similar to how he and his partners have done things at Gretel and Little Bad Wolf, he said. <\/p>\n \u201cWe enjoy having the \u2018something for everyone\u2019 approach, and that didn\u2019t change here either,\u201d Ashbach said. \u201cThis is a big menu, but it\u2019s a big place, and everything we put out on the menu we think we make really well.\u201d <\/p>\n That includes offering pizza, which will be similar to the New Haven style and available for takeout, along with other portions of the menu. Cocktails and full bar offerings will be available downstairs and in the upstairs lounge.<\/p>\n At the cafe, a full espresso menu plus espresso tonics, cold brew and smoothies will be available, with a takeout window opening out onto the patio. <\/p>\n Downstairs, the grocery and butcher shop are stocking everything from specialty flours and aged cuts of meat to popular snacks, pantry staples and booze. The deli will also sell sandwiches to go, Ashbach said.<\/p>\n \u201cIf you wanted, you could shop here for the week. But this is intended for if you can\u2019t make it to your big store, whether it\u2019s Mariano\u2019s or Whole Foods or whatever it is, you can definitely stock up here for one or two evenings,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re taking a lot of time curating what we offer so that it can be a combination of everyday use to go along with specialty wants.\u201d <\/p>\n Ashbach said he looked at Wolf & Company\u2019s retail space \u2014 which is 10,000 square feet \u2014 in the Trailhead building three years ago, and he immediately was drawn to the trail access and the potential to do something different.<\/p>\n \u201cWe think it\u2019ll be nice for not just this community here in Bucktown, but all the other adjoining communities that are connected to the trail to meet at a centralized location,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s almost like an essentials of what every neighborhood should have.\u201d <\/p>\n Wolf & Company\u2019s cafe will open 7 a.m. daily.
