Lincoln Park Hit with Early Morning Smash-and-Grab Burglaries

Multiple Incidents Reported

Chicago Police are investigating a series of early morning smash-and-grab burglaries in Lincoln Park. The incidents occurred between 3:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Friday, with at least three of the four reported burglaries taking place during this time frame.

Residents Describe the Scene

Ariel Aguilar, who works at nearby Celina’s Nail Spa, was startled to see patrol officers converging on Old Pueblo Restaurant on the 1200 block of Webster around 9 a.m. “I think I heard in the beginning some glass-smashing,” Aguilar said. “So, all I hear is, ‘Put your hands up’ or something. If there was somebody there, I was worried they would shoot…so I hid.”

Police Response

While police did not take anyone into custody, News Affairs reported that at least three of the four smash-and-grabs occurred between 3:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. Miriam Balinsky with Mid North Animal Hospital told WGN News they were thankful there were no injuries. “Windows can be fixed, and businesses can be repaired, but hopefully, humans are safe and everything,” Balinsky said.

Investigation Ongoing

In at least two of the four incidents, police say the offender(s) appear to have used a large rock to smash through glass windows and doors. Anyone with additional information may leave an anonymous tip at cpdtip.com. CPD added that Area Three Detectives are working to find the culprits.
