Round Two of Snow System Impacts Morning Commute
Round two of Chicago’s three-part snow system is ramping up and moving in from the north. This will impact the morning commute with the greatest effects felt in the northern portion of our viewing area where 2-3 inches have fallen already. A ground stop was issued at O’Hare Airport from 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. due to snow and ice. It has since been lifted but a ground delay remains in place until 11 a.m., averaging 41-minute delays.
Additional Accumulations and Gusty Winds
Additional accumulations of an inch or so are likely with this next round, perhaps less near the lake where it will be just a tad above freezing, limiting the sticking of the snow. Highs will range from the low to maybe mid 30s then start to fall as the system pulls away. Gusty winds will kick in as well.
Lake-Effect Snow and Weekend Forecast
The third round of this system will be lake-effect snow later today through tomorrow. The band of snow may graze northeast Illinois before becoming exclusively a northwest Indiana issue later today through Saturday. Lows tonight will be in the teens with wind chills around zero.
The weekend looks chilly but dry with some sunshine both days. Highs will be in the mid 20s to around 30 tomorrow (coldest where the snow pack is thickest north). On Sunday, it will be a few degrees less cold.

The real warmup hits next week with highs most days in the 40s and some small chances for rain-possibly Monday morning then Christmas day and Thursday.
