Patience at 73 Pays Off with Special Big Buck
A Lifetime of Hunting Experience
Steven Sturtevant’s patience and perseverance paid off in a big way, earning him Buck of the Week honors. At 73 years young, Sturtevant’s experience and determination proved that age is just a number when it comes to hunting.
The Patient Wait
According to Sturtevant, it was a long wait for a buck to appear. “Nov. 2 was the start of my two-week vacation to hunt the Illinois rut,” he recalled. “This guy showed up on camera in late August and no sign until now. He was my No. 1 target for the rut.”
The Big Moment
At 5 p.m. on a recent afternoon in Kane County, Sturtevant’s patience was rewarded. A big buck reappeared, and he had a good opportunity at 25 yards. With his bow in hand, he arrowed the buck, making it a moment he would never forget.
A Sense of Accomplishment
“At 73, it’s an awesome feeling,” Sturtevant exclaimed. “A buck like that feels awesome at any age, I think.”
