Former Thornton Fractional South High School Coach Accused of Sexually Assaulting Student
Charges Filed Against Aaron Richmond
Charges have been filed against a former suburban high school coach accused of sexually assaulting a student in early March.
The Investigation
According to Glenwood police, 31-year-old Aaron Richmond, a Harvey resident and former coach at Thornton Fractional South High School, has been charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse and aggravated criminal sexual assault. The charges stem from an incident officers said allegedly unfolded in March of 2024, at Richmond’s former home in the 100 block of North Pine Lane, in Glenwood.
The Alleged Incident
Police said Richmond allegedly picked up the 16-year-old victim, who was a student at the high school, from their home in another community under the pretense that he would be driving them to a sporting event. Officers said instead, Richmond allegedly drove the victim to his former Glenwood home and invited them into his home to wait for him, after telling them that he needed to gather items for the event.
The Aftermath
According to police, once inside the home, Richmond allegedly assaulted the victim. Following the alleged assault, officers said Richmond drove the victim to the sporting event and instructed them not to tell anyone about what unfolded. The victim eventually told family members and other trusted individuals, including mandated reporters, who then informed the police.
The Investigation Continues
After officers learned about the alleged offense, an investigation was conducted with assistance from the La Rabida Child Advocacy Center. Charges were approved against Richmond after the case facts were presented to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office for review.
Statement from the School District
On Saturday, a spokesperson for Thornton Fractional High School District 215 confirmed that Richmond had worked with the district until his resignation in June.
