Gunmen Rob Couple in Glenview, Doorbell Camera Captures Incident

Must read

Introduction to the Incident

Angeline and Gregory Poulos were just arriving home from dinner when they were held up by an armed robbery crew Monday night in Glenview. The couple were walking up to the front door of their home in the 1700 block of Bluestem Lane when three masked men with handguns jumped out of a stolen Jaguar SUV about 10 p.m. and began yelling, “Give me everything!”

Details of the Robbery

“At first, I thought it was one of my son’s friends coming over, and so I didn’t get scared at that moment,” Angeline Poulos told the Sun-Times on Tuesday. “But then the guy started screaming, ‘Give me everything, give me all your things,’ pointing a gun at us, and I was like, what is happening right now?” The robbery was captured on the couple’s doorbell camera. The footage shows the gunmen approaching the couple and taking their belongings. Gregory Poulos can be seen raising his hands and telling the crew, “You got it, take it. Take everything.”

Reaction and Training

“In that moment, my training kicked in,” said Gregory Poulos, who was a trained nuclear reactor operator in the U.S. Navy. “I knew I needed to stay calm, even if I was not calm inside. I just focused on de-escalating the situation.” The couple said the robbers took their wallets, purse, coats and jewelry — including Gregory Poulos’ wedding band and a family heirloom. “Everything is replaceable. Our lives are all that matters,” he said.

Aftermath of the Robbery

Unseen in the doorbell camera footage was the crew making the couple lie prone on the ground as they continued stealing their belongings and then jumping back into the SUV. “After a while, we got back up, went inside the house and locked the door and called 911,” Angeline Poulos said. The stolen SUV was later found abandoned in the 4300 block of South Federal Street in Chicago’s Fuller Park neighborhood, the Glenview Police Department said.

Response and Community

The couple said they were still in shock but are “grateful to be alive.” “Your home is supposed to be your safe place, and having that taken away is very unfortunate,” Angeline Poulos said. “But when something like this happens, you count your blessings.” Three of the couple’s four children live at home, and the family shared footage of the robbery on Ring Neighbors and Nextdoor, to alert their neighbors. “We’ve received an outpouring of well wishes, and our community has been amazing,” Gregory Poulos said. “But we just want to make sure people are alert and aware of their surroundings.”

Conclusion

The incident highlights the importance of staying vigilant and the value of community support in times of crisis. The Poulos family’s experience serves as a reminder that even in safe neighborhoods, unexpected events can occur, and being prepared and having the right mindset can make a significant difference.
